4 min read

Peru is one of those destinations that can feel like a once-in-a-lifetime adventure—but it doesn’t have to require weeks away from home. In just seven days, you can experience the Sacred Valley, walk among alpacas, explore ancient Inca towns, journey to Machu Picchu, discover the vibrant streets of Cusco, and welcome the New Year in the heart of the Andes.

This is a getaway that packs a lot into a short amount of time, without feeling rushed. And there’s something particularly magical about spending New Year’s Eve in Cusco, surrounded by centuries of history, mountain landscapes, incredible food, and the energy of a city ready to celebrate.

Here’s how we would do it…

7 Days in Peru: A New Year’s Eve Getaway

FOR DETAILS: INFO@SATEDVENTURES.COM

DAY 1 | December 26 —

Welcome to the Andes

Your Peruvian adventure begins the moment you arrive in Cusco, where the dramatic Andes immediately set the scene. After being greeted at the airport, settle into the rhythm of Peru over lunch at a local restaurant before making your way into the Sacred Valley. Along the way, we’ll stop at Casa Museo Sulca, a cultural space dedicated to Peru’s extraordinary textile traditions and the camelids that are so deeply connected to Andean life. Meet alpacas and llamas, learn about traditional textile practices, and, if you’re visiting during the right season, even help feed baby alpacas. It’s a wonderfully gentle introduction to Peru—and a beautiful way to begin acclimatizing to the altitude.

Overnight: La Casona de Yucay

DAY 2 | December 27 —

Flavors, Spirits & the Sacred Valley

Today is all about experiencing the Sacred Valley through its food, traditions and ancient history. Begin by discovering the art of Peruvian coffee, learning how beans are transformed from their origins into the aromatic coffee we know and love. Then get creative at an artisanal distillery, where you’ll make your own Andean Elixir, combining sugarcane aguardiente with herbs and traditional ingredients. Your personalized bottle becomes a souvenir that continues to develop for months. Then comes one of the great culinary experiences of the Andes: Pachamanca. Cooked underground in an earth-and-stone oven, this traditional feast brings together meats, Andean potatoes, sweet potatoes and vegetables—a true celebration of the connection between food and the land.

After lunch, explore Ollantaytambo, one of the most impressive surviving Inca settlements, with its original streets and stone architecture still woven into everyday life. End the day at a traditional chichería, learning how chicha de jora, a fermented corn drink with deep Andean roots, is made.

DAY 3 | December 28 —

Machu Picchu by Train

Today, the adventure gets even bigger. Board the Vistadome train from Ollantaytambo and travel through the spectacular Andean landscape toward Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. From there, your guide will accompany you by bus up to the legendary Inca citadel. Standing among the ancient stone terraces and mountains of Machu Picchu is one of those travel moments that photographs simply cannot capture. Take your time exploring with your private guide before returning to Aguas Calientes for lunch and a relaxing evening at your hotel.

Overnight: El Mapi Hotel Machu Picchu by Inkaterra

DAY 4 | December 29 —

A Second Look at Machu Picchu & Cusco

Why rush away from one of the world's great wonders? This morning, return to Machu Picchu for a second guided visit. Having seen the citadel the day before, you can slow down, revisit favorite places, discover details you may have missed, and take those final photographs. Then return by train toward Cusco, where you’ll settle into the city for the final part of your Peruvian getaway.

Overnight: Novotel Cusco

DAY 5 | December 30 —

Discover the Heart of Cusco

Today we dive into Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire and one of South America’s most fascinating cities. Start at San Pedro Market, where locals shop for everything from fresh produce to traditional ingredients and Andean specialties. Then discover the extraordinary Koricancha, once the most important temple in the Inca Empire and dedicated to Inti, the Sun God. Continue to Sacsayhuaman, where enormous stone blocks demonstrate the remarkable precision of Inca engineering. From there, walk through Cusco’s atmospheric streets, passing the Sapantiana aqueduct and the colorful artisan neighborhood of San Blas before arriving at the Plaza de Armas and the city’s magnificent Cathedral.

Spend the rest of the afternoon however you wish—shopping, exploring, relaxing at the hotel or simply enjoying a cocktail while watching Cusco come alive.

DAY 6 | December 31 —

A Taste of Peru & New Year’s Eve

And now for the grand finale: New Year’s Eve in Cusco.

Before the celebrations begin, spend the day immersed in one of Peru’s greatest passions—food. With Mama Seledonia, begin at the local Cascaparo Market, discovering the native ingredients and flavors that define Cusco’s cuisine. Select fresh ingredients before heading into the kitchen to prepare traditional dishes alongside the team. But this experience is about more than food. Seledonia’s culinary program also supports single mothers from vulnerable communities, creating opportunities for women to build a more independent future. After your cooking experience, enjoy the fruits of your work together over lunch.

Then, you have the afternoon to relax, get dressed and prepare for the evening.

Because tonight, Cusco celebrates. Welcome the New Year surrounded by the incredible energy of the Andes, historic streets, festive traditions and the magic of being somewhere completely different as the clock strikes midnight.

DAY 7 | January 1 —

Hasta Luego, Peru

Wake up in Cusco on the first morning of a brand-new year.

After breakfast, your private transfer will take you to the airport for your journey home—hopefully with a suitcase full of memories, a camera full of photographs and a new appreciation for just how much adventure you can fit into one unforgettable week in Peru. You don't need two weeks. You just need seven days.

From llamas and Pachamanca to Machu Picchu and the cobblestone streets of Cusco, Peru proves that an extraordinary adventure can be surprisingly easy to fit into your calendar. And if you’re looking for a New Year’s celebration that feels a little more meaningful than a crowded party at home, imagine starting the new year surrounded by the Andes.

Peru is calling. And New Year’s Eve is a pretty spectacular time to answer.
