ITINERARY


Day 1 -

Home - Lima, Peru

Take your international flight to Peru. Reception at the Lima airport by the Sated Ventures team, and private transfer to your hotel. Welcome to Peru! Your arrival will most likely be in the evening.

Day 2 -

Lima

Lima Private City Tour with lunch inside the Larco Museum

You will visit the modern and colonial parts of Lima, known as The City of Kings, starting at the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, and passing along a “huaca” or sacred pre-Inca site, before heading to the Historic Center. There, you will walk along some of the most historically important streets of the city, leading to the Plaza de Armas, where you will have some time to take pictures of the amazing colonial architecture that surrounds it. You will also have the chance to take a peek into an iconic building that has served Lima’s citizens for centuries and continues to be an important landmark. Then you will visit the impressive Convent of Santo Domingo, an astonishing building with colonial style. After exploring the Historical Center, you will head towards the Larco Museum, which houses the incomparable Treasures of Ancient Peru private collection. Lunch inside the museum.


Afternoon Lima Gourmet by night private experience. Kick the night off by enjoying a Peru food tour that starts with a swanky beachfront cocktail at sunset accompanied by a fusion of flavors representing Lima’s traditions. Head up the cliffs and into the past as you tuck into an array of delicious Peruvian dishes at the famous Huaca Pucllana restaurant surrounded by spectacular views of pre-Incan ruins. You’ll no doubt swoon just as other past guests like Mick Jagger, Gene Simmons, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as well as numerous heads of state and members of the royal family. Here you’ll try the best of top chef Marilú Madueño’s take on Peruvian recipes with another menu specially designed only for our guests. We will then head to the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco for the last stop. In a house full of color and culture, we will lose ourselves in the culinary world with a creative and exclusive menu featuring the signature cuisine of a local chef accompanied by a delectable dessert. Finally, take a nighttime stroll with a quaint walking food tour in Lima, around the bohemian Barranco neighborhood. You’ll get much more than a feel for Peruvian culture on this gourmet tour of Miraflores and Barranco!


Day 3 -

Lima - Iquitos

After breakfast and checking out, private transfer to the airport for your flight to Iquitos in the jungle. Upon arrival in the Amazon, reception by the Aqua team and begin your 7-night expedition.


Receive a warm welcome at Iquitos International Airport by our crew and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before boarding Aqua Nera.

Settle into your generously sized suite as you begin one of life’s greatest adventures. Following an introduction from our naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, gather at the restaurant for the first of many Amazonian cuisine experiences created by Aqua Nera's renowned consulting chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.


Day 4 -

Amazon

Yanayacu Yacapana / Yarapa River / Ucayali River

Aboard our comfortable skiffs, we set sail from the Amazon River to the Yanayacu Yacapana River. Ready your binoculars to spot tropical songbirds, black collared hawks and sloths. Line-fish for Amazon’s notoriously ferocious piranhas while our naturalist guides share their knowledge of the Amazonia. In the afternoon, we sail to Yarapa River, a black water tributary of the Ucayali River. Here we’ll embark on a stargazing session and an excursion in search of nocturnal wildlife.


Day 5 -

Amazon

Clavero Lake / Marañon River

We get an early start to the day to explore Clavero Lake aboard our comfortable skiffs. Here, villagers rely on traditional dugout canoes to get around. You’ll have the opportunity to swim in the lake’s calm waters or visit native residents of Amazonia who will welcome you to their community with open arms. In the afternoon, we will explore the majestic Marañon River in search of different kinds of wildlife.


Day 6 -

Amazon

Nauta Town / Village Visit / Birthplace Of The Amazon

In the morning, take a guided visit to the local market and marvel at the regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon, and sample exotic snacks if you wish. For those interested, there’ll also be the opportunity to visit an experienced beekeeper in the community of San Francisco. In the afternoon, witness one of the great spectacles of the Southern Hemisphere, the birthplace of the Amazon River. By nightfall, you will meet the new passengers who signed on for the four-night trip, as we start our journey together along the Marañon River.


Day 7 -

Amazon

Marañon River / Yanayacu Pucate River

Rise with the sun for an early morning birdwatching session along the Marañon River and enjoy breakfast in the middle of the jungle. Next, visit an Amazonian village where you’ll be able to interact with native riberenos and witness an Aguaje palm harvesting demonstration. Later, go swimming, kayaking, or canoeing in the Yanayacu-Pucate River and keep an eye out for the legendary pink river dolphins. Finally, board the skiffs again to cruise along Yanaquillo River for a dusk excursion in search of nocturnal animals.


Day 8 -

Amazon

Samiria River

The rewards for our early start today are plentiful: a full day excursion including a picnic lunch orchestrated to the tune of the jungle symphony, fishing along the black waters of the Samiria River, and an option to go canoeing, kayaking, swimming, or on a jungle walk inside the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. On the way back to the Marañon River after lunch, we venture out by skiff keeping an eye out for pink river dolphins.


Day 9 -

Amazon

Nauta Caño River / Jungle Walk

As the day begins, embark on a morning wildlife excursion on the extraordinary black water Nauta Caño River. If you wish, embark on a bike ride from Puerto Prado Village to Santa Cruz Village along the riverbank. In the afternoon, take a jungle walk while looking for flora and fauna which may include medicinal trees, insects, and poison dart frogs. Learn more about the different rainforest strata and ecosystems. Before dinner, meet the incredible crew who’ve been working behind the scenes to ensure your exceptional experience aboard Aqua Nera.


Day 10 -

Iquitos - Cuzco - Sacred Valley

Arrival In Iquitos / Manatee Rescue Center / Transfer To The Airport

In the morning, take a guided visit to the local market and marvel at the regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon, and sample exotic snacks if you wish. Return to the Aqua Nera for breakfast before disembarkation. En route to the airport, visit the Manatee Rescue Center, where orphaned Amazonian manatees rehabilitate before they are released back into the wild.


Flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, meet our Cuzco Sated Ventures team as we whisk you away to the Sacred Valley. Altitude is lower here, making acclimation much easier.


Discovering Exploring Maras, Moray and Chinchero

En route to our hotel, you will enjoy a panoramic visit of the Maras salt mines, where the finest salt in the world is extracted: Maras salt. Then, you will head to Moray, a fascinating archaeological site in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will visit its huge concentric terraces, which the Incas used as a botanical laboratory. Afterwards, you will head to Chinchero to enjoy a visit to a traditional Andean town, with a panoramic view of Chinchero´s Church, which was built by the Spanish in 1607 and remains standing until today. Continue with the visit to the Chinchero ruins, where you will find an important Inca center in which terraces and aqueducts were built. Lunch will be provided at a farm to table experience. Afterwards, rest at your hotel, and enjoy dinner here.

Day 11 -

Sacred Valley

Iconic Sacred Valley: Misminay and Ollantaytambo - full day private tour

You will leave your hotel in Cusco and head to the Raqchi viewpoint, from where you will have an impressive view of the Sacred Valley. Then, you will visit the Misminay community, where the residents will give you a warm welcome with music and typical dances. Here, you will participate in preparing lunch with the community, using local products and the pachamanca ceremony. After the meal is prepared, sit with the community to break bread and share stories - a truly remarkable moment!


At the end of your meal, you will head to the town of Ollantaytambo, where you will find one of the most representative architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire and one of the few places where the Spanish conquerors lost an important battle. You will tour the town, visit the ruins and see the Inca’s wonderful architectural work. Before leaving, you will stop at the traditional town market, where you will have the opportunity to buy some local handicrafts. Overnight at the hotel and have dinner here. If time allows and you would like to see additional ruins, we can enjoy a stop to the Pisac Ruins as well.


Day 12 -

Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Breakfast at the hotel, then at the scheduled time, you will be transferred from your hotel to the Ollantaytambo train station. Board the scenic Vistadome Train to Machu Picchu and enjoy the glass dome ceiling. The natural beauty of the surroundings makes the train ride the best way to start your visit. Upon arrival, meet your guide and enjoy the ruins together! Our porters will meet you at the station and handle the luggage, so that you can focus on visiting the citadel. You will visit one of the most important tourist destinations in the world: Machu Picchu. This visit will, without a doubt, be one of your most memorable experiences. After you reach the top, you will take a tour of Machu Picchu, learning the history and mysteries of one of the Seven Wonders of the World. And, with amazing sceneries all around, you will surely have more than one spectacular photo-op. Then, it’s back to Aguas Calientes. Lunch included in the village, and tonight, dinner at your hotel.

Day 13 -

Machu Picchu - Cuzco

Early this morning, meet with your guide to return to the ruins for a sunrise return to the ruins. Today you have the opportunity to climb up Huchuy Picchu, a softer hike. The Huchuy Picchu mountain offers Andean landscapes full of vegetation. From its top you have a privileged view of the archaeological site. This route follows stone paths and stairs built by the Incas at the end of the 15th century. The entry point is the same that leads to Huayna Picchu. The first section is on flat trails. Then you take a detour of stone stairs that lead to the top of Huchuy Picchu. The route is easy to walk. It takes about 1 hour, depending on the physical condition of the visitor. Returning takes approximately 30 minutes. The return route is the same as the outward leg, only mostly downhill. After the sunrise visit, enjoy lunch at the top of the mountain before heading back to the village. Free time to explore the small town and market, then train to Cuzco. Enjoy the HIram Bingham Dinner train. Finally, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 14 -

Cuzco

This afternoon, City Tour Cusco, with San Pedro market and nearby archaeological sites. Meet your local guide to explore Cuzco together - You will visit the city of Cusco, known as the Imperial City and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you will start your tour at the iconic San Pedro market, a local market where you can explore the colors, flavors and traditions of modern Cusco. The visit continues with the Koricancha Temple, an ancient Inca palace and cult center of the Sun God, above which the order of the Dominicans built a church, which remains standing to this day. You will continue ascending to the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. Afterwards, you will explore Q’enqo archeological site, where important Inca ceremonies took place. Finally, you will arrive at the Plaza de Armas (main square), where you will visit the Cathedral, the most important temple in the city. Finally fully acclimated, end the tour with our Cuzco cocktail visit. Visit 3 of our favorite restaurants in the Imperial City, to learn about local recipes of cocktails, while enjoying great atmosphere, landscapes and delicious appetizers that match perfectly the prepared drinks.


Tonight, special treat as we enjoy dinner inside the local museum.


Day 15 -

Cuzco - Puno

Private transfer to the Cuzco station to board your Belmond Journey to Lake Titicaca! Board the train in Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire. Settle into your private cabin, and take the time to relax into the indulgent atmosphere of the train. Perhaps head to the Observation Car, order a classic Pisco Sour, and watch the scenery unfold. Later, take a seat in one of the two sophisticated dining cars for a delicious lunch. Anticipate refined Andean specialties served with contemporary flair.

Return to the train for afternoon tea as your journey southeast continues. As evening descends, savor a picturesque sunset framed by the majestic La Raya mountains. As the train continues to Lake Titicaca station, enjoy a delicious dinner on board. Breakfast and then a private tour of Arequipa with our local guide. Arequipa is unlike any other city you’ll see on your Peru vacation. Arequipa holds the air of a quaint town imploring you to explore its cobblestone streets and white volcanic stone buildings. Travel to Arequipa to witness colonial architecture framed by volcanoes and the impressive city within a city of Santa Catalina Monastery. Guided tours will take you through Arequipa city’s main highlights to photogenic viewpoints for views of El Misti volcano.


At the appropriate time, private transfer to the airport for flight to Lima, and here connect with your flight home.
